BACKGROUND

Dr. Anthony Fauci (pronounced FOW-CHEE) is a world renowned immunologist. An immunologist is a doctor that specializes in the human immune system. Fauci is currently the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a post he’s held since 1984. He’s often called the “nation’s leading expert on infectious diseases”, and thus, has served as the voice of the medical community and United States Government concerning the COVID-19 virus (Coronavirus).

EARLY LIFE

Fauci was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 24, 1940. His parents were pharmacists, and Anthony (known as Tony by his friends) helped them by delivering prescriptions. Fauci attended Holy Cross University and Cornell Medical School.

MEDICAL CAREER

Fauci’s illustrious career in medicine began when he was hired as a clinical associate at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He proved to be an extremely hard worker and took on important research and administrative positions in the infectious diseases department at NIH. Fauci’s research has led to the development of therapies for diseases that were once fatal and has headed research on the prevention and treatment of diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, and various respiratory illnesses. He has also conducted extensive research on HIV/AIDS and the EBOLA virus, and is considered one of the world’s leading experts on both.

COVID-19

Fauci is one of the world’s foremost voices concerning the COVID-19 virus that spread across the world in 2019 and 2020. As head of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Fauci has developed protocols and recommendations for slowing the spread of the virus. He has also served as the government’s chief communication officer concerning information on the virus. He has appeared in numerous press conferences and news shows to communicate vital information, recommendations, and facts about COVID-19 to the American public and beyond.
