Ferdinand Magellan Biography

Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer who led the first expedition to sail around the world in the early 1500s. Sailing for Spain, he sought a western route to the Spice Islands and discovered the Strait of Magellan at the southern tip of South America. Although he was killed in the Philippines in 1521, his expedition continued and completed the first circumnavigation of the globe.
