Rome, Italy

Known as the "Eternal City," Rome is one of the world’s most historic cities. Dating back over 2,800 years, from the historic rivalry between Romulus and Remus, Rome and the Roman Empire grew into a powerful civilization, ruled by the likes of Julius Caesar, Octavius, and other famous leaders, that dominated the Mediterranean region for many centuries.

Few cities in the world can match the sheer number of landmarks and historic settings within Rome. Rome’s most famous landmark is probably the Colosseum, a huge amphitheater built in ancient Rome for gladiatorial combat. Rome also features the Trevi Fountain, the largest and most elaborate baroque fountain in the city. In addition, Rome is the site of the Mausoleum of Augustus, a large tomb built by the Roman emperor Augustus to preserve the ashes of the Royal Families, and the Pantheon, a well-preserved temple dedicated to the Roman Gods.

Today, Rome is one of the world’s most visited cities and is the largest city and capital of Italy. It is an international center of transportation, culture, education, religion, and fashion. Within the city of Rome rests the Vatican, the home of the Roman-Catholic Pope and center of the Catholic religion. The Vatican is the site of the world-famous Sistine Chapel.
