Located near the center of the Arabian peninsula, Riyadh is the largest city in Saudi Arabia. The name Riyadh comes from the the Arabic word "rawdha" meaning place of gardens and trees.

Modern Riyadh came into being after the oil boom of the 1950s. Today, the city is home to many important modern landmarks including Kingdom Tower (pictured), which, at 992 feet in height, is the tallest building in Saudi Arabia. Inside Kingdom Tower is the world's highest mosque, a shopping mall, and a Four Seasons hotel.

Riyadh is the cente rof an urban region with over seven million people. The city is home to the world's largest all-female university - Princess Nora bit Abdulrahman University.
