Located on the southwest shores of Lake Michigan, Chicago is the third largest city in the United States. It is known as the Windy City.
Founded in 1833, the name Chicago is roughly translated to "Wild Onion" in Potawatomi language. Today, Chicago is one of the world's financial and industrial centers and was the site of the world's first skyscraper. Its skyline, directly on the shores of Lake Michigan, is one of the most spectacular in the world!
Chicago has a fascinating history. It was completely re-built after a devastating fire in 1871. It has been known as the historical hub of renowned gangsters and organized crime leaders such as Al Capone. In 1943, O' Hare International Airport was built. It later became the busiest airport in the world.
