    • The classification of the fossils initially led to the identification of two distinct genera: Apatosaurus and Brontosaurus. However, in the early 20th century, researchers argued that the Brontosaurus was merely a juvenile form of Apatosaurus, merging the two into a single genus.
    • In a surprising turn of events, a 2015 study led by paleontologist Emanuel Tschopp revisited the classification, concluding that Brontosaurus should be reinstated as a valid genus, distinct from Apatosaurus.

    • The long neck and tail, along with a relatively small head, were defining features of Brontosaurus, adapting it to reach vegetation high above the ground in a manner reminiscent of modern giraffes.
