What is an Example of a Cape?

Located on the southwestern coast of South Africa, the Cape of Good Hope was originally named the Cape of Storms by Portuguese explorer Bartholomew Dias in 1488. It was renamed the Cape of Good Hope by John II of Portugal, because the rounding of the cape led to the opening of a sea route from Europe to Asia. Although Bartholomew Dias was the first explorer to reach the Cape of Good Hope, Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama was the first to round it, and sail to India in 1498.
