Sydney, the capital of the Australian state of New South Wales, is the largest city in Australia and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It has a population of nearly 4.4 million people. Established in 1788, Sydney was the first European colony in Australia. Known as the "Harbour City," Sydney is the economic and commercial center of Australia. Its port, Sydney Harbor, is the largest natural harbor in the world.

Sydney is a popular attraction for tourists and famous landmarks include the beautiful Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Sydney is also an important immigration destination. There are more than 250 different languages spoken in Sydney. The city played host to the 2000 Summer Olypics.
