Grasslands

* All grasslands are characterized by deep-rooted grasses, with few trees and shrubs.
* Tropical grasslands, called savannas, are located in Africa and Asia. These grasslands have hot weather throughout the year with occasional replenishing torrential rains.
* Temperate grasslands occur in North America and Asia. These regions are hot in the summer and can be brutally cold in the winter. Little rain reaches the soil because of the high rate of evaporation. These grasslands are called prairies or plains in North America and steppes in Asia. Australian grasslands are referred to as rangelands.
* Grasslands animals vary by continent but include lions, cheetahs, zebras and bison among others.
