The Ozark Mountains, located primarily in northwestern Arkansas, southwestern Missouri, and a tiny portion of northeastern Oklahoma, are the largest area of highlands in between the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains. The Ozark Range covers an area of about 47,000 square miles.
There are three distinct sections to the Ozarks: The Springfield Plateau, the Salem Plateau, and the Boston Mountains. The Boston Mountains are the highest of the three and contain Mount Magazine (2,753 feet), the highest mountain in the range. |
