The mighty Colorado River flows through four national parks: Rocky Mountain in Colorado; Arches and Canyonlands in Utah; and Grand Canyon, which was carved by the river over millions of years, in Arizona. The Colorado River is vital for the people of the southwest and northern Mexico. More than 90% of its water is diverted to provide water for agriculture and for the people of Nevada, California, and Arizona. In addition, the river is dammed to produce hydroelectric power and water. The most famous dam over the Colorado River is the Hoover Dam, on the border of Nevada and Arizona.
