Voyageurs National Park

Voyageurs National Park, located near the town of International Falls in northern Minnesota, was named after French fur-traders (Voyageurs), who were supposedly the first Europeans to travel through the area. Located in the ancient Canadian Shield physiographic region, Voyageurs features some of the world’s oldest rock formations (1-3 billion years old), and supports a variety of habitats including bogs, swamps, beaver ponds, and four large lakes. A thin layer of soil supports pristine boreal forests. Most of Voyageurs National Park is only accessible by boat.
