Congaree National Park

Congaree National Park, in central South Carolina, became a national park in 2003. It preserves the largest remaining tract of old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in America. The flooded, swampy forests of Congaree represent some of the tallest forest canopies in the world. The park also features the world's tallest loblolly pines. Congaree National Park is also designated as an International Biosphere Reserver and a Globally Important Bird Area. Visitors to Congaree can enjoy the scenery from the Boardwalk Loop, a 2.4 mile elevated boardwalk through the swamps.
