The Lewis and Clark (1804-1806) journey was one of the great adventure in the history of America. Together, Meriwther Lewis, William Clark, and 42 others discovered more than 300 of plants and animals and the land from modern-day Missouri to the of the Pacific Ocean in Oregon. Believe it or not, Thomas Jefferson the expedition in the hopes of finding the Northwest Passage, a sea through the American continent to the Pacific Ocean. Jefferson also was sure the would find volcanoes, wooly mammoths, and great mountains of salt! Although Lewis and Clark were unsuccessful in finding any easy route to the Pacific Ocean, they were home as heroes who had spent three years in the wilderness.
