Washington, D.C.

Washington, located in the District of Columbia (between Virginia and Maryland), was founded and made capital of the United States in 1790. It was named after George Washington. Today, Washington is one of the nation’s top tourist destinations. Visitors from around the world come to see the White House (president's residence), the National Zoo, the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, Ford’s Theater, FBI Headquarters, the Capitol Building, the Library of Congress (the largest library in America), the Washington Monument and much more.
