Great Lakes

 

The Great Lakes are a group of five lakes in the northern United States and southern Canada. Formed by retreating glaciers 10,000 years ago, the Great Lakes are the largest system of freshwater lakes on earth.

   

Lake Superior

Lake Superior is the largest of the great lakes and second largest lake in the world.

Area: 31,700 square miles

   

Lake Michigan

Lake Michigan is the third largest of the Great Lakes and the only of the lakes entirely within the United States.

Area: 21,200 square miles.

   

Lake Huron

Lake Huron is the second largest of the Great Lakes and the fourth largest lake in the world.

Area: 23,000 square miles

   

Lake Ontario

Lake Ontario is the smallest of the Great Lakes and the 14th largest lake in the world.

Area: 7,115 square miles

   

Lake Erie

Lake Erie is the fourth largest of the Great Lakes and the 12th largest lake in the world.
