Alexander Graham Bell is known as the of the telephone. He was born in 1847 in Scotland. At the age of 12, after his mother lost her , Bell became interested in studying sound. Bell learned to use sign so that he could talk to her. He to the United States as an adult and worked as a for people who could not hear. He experiments on how sound travels, which led to his invention of the telephone. In 1876, he was able to speak into one end of his machine. His assistant heard him at the other end. The Bell Telephone Company was created shortly afterward and by 1886 there were over 150,000 phones in the United States. Bell died in 1922 but his lives on today.
