Parents and Teachers: Please note we are making some internal changes to the site. As a result, the Great American Multiplication Challenge, Spellerz!, Burnside's Billions and couple of other games will not show statistics or return save codes for the next few days. They will be playable, but no data will be saved. They should be fully functional again by the end of the week. As always, please support this site by following me on FACEBOOK or TWITTER.

Great Rift Valley

What is a Valley?

A long depression in the surface of the land that is normally surrounded by higher hills or mountains.

What is an Example of a Valley?

The Great Rift Valley is a massive valley that stretches almost 4,000 miles from Syria in the Middle East to Mozambique in southern Africa. About 20 million years ago, the earth’s crust weakened and created a jagged rift across Africa. The land on either side erupted, creating huge, volcanic mountains. Meanwhile, the valley sank into the low plain we now call the Great Rift Valley. Today, the valley is characterized by arid deserts, fertile farmland, massive savannas, and steep regions of cliffs. The area also features more than thirty active volcanoes and hundreds of hot springs.
