Steven
Spielberg is one of the most successful
movie directors of all time. Spielberg
was interested in making movies at
an early age, and even started making
movies as a teenager. At age 21, he
made his first short film for theatrical
release, Amblin (1968).After
directing several TV shows and made
for TV movies, Spielberg directed the
classic Jaws (1975), about
killer sharks. Jaws won four Academy
Awards and set a record for money grossed.
In
1977, Spielberg directed Close
Encounters of the Third Kind,
a project he had dreamed of working
on since a child. Spielberg next collaborated
with George Lucas on The Raiders
of the Lost Ark (1981), starring
Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. Spielberg
also directed the legendary sequels Indiana
Jones and the Temple of Doom,
and Indiana Jones and the Last
Crusade.
In
1982, Spielberg directed the timeless
classic E.T., about a boy
and the alien he befriends. After directing The
Color Purple (1985), and Hook (1991),
Spielberg directed Jurassic Park (1993),
about a dinosaur experiment gone awry
at a tropical island resort. That same
year, Spielberg won his first Academy
Award for Best Director with Schindler's
List, the story of a man who saved
thousands of lives during the Holocaust.
In
1998, Spielberg directed the classic
World War II drama, Saving Private
Ryan in which Spielberg won his
second Academy Award for best director.
Spielberg's latest movie, War of
the Worlds (2005), features Tom
Cruise and is the story of an alien
attack against Earth. Spielberg is
the co-founder of Dreamworks Pictures.
