Calendar Clowns

 
Background: Calendar Clowns is a fun way for students to practice navigating a calendar and using calendar vocabulary to solve math problems. Students will see a message on the top of the screen such as “What day is two weeks after the 6th?” Students must use their clown “stamp,” chosen at the start of the game to mark the 20th on the calendar. The game ends when the student marks up the entire calendar.

Clara Fraction’s Ice Cream Shop

 
Background: Clara Fraction’s Ice Cream Shop is a fun game in which students have to fulfill customer ice cream orders. Easier said than done! These customers are different from typical ice cream customers and make their orders using improper fractions. You must convert the improper fractions into mixed numbers and apply the correct scoops to each ice cream cone. Make as much money as possible in five minutes. Be careful though. If you fail to fulfill an order correctly, it will cost you $2.00. Clara Fraction is a fantastic way to help students visualize mixed numbers and improper fractions and is one of the only games on the internet that allows students to practice these skills in real-life (well, sort of) scenarios.

Coordinates Thumbnail

Background: In Coordinates, students learn latitude and longitude while learning the locations and names of the world’s nations. First, students are prompted to find the latitude coordinate. Once the latitude coordinate is found, the game locks the latitude position and the longitude lines animate into the map. Finally, students are prompted to find a point of longitude. If the clicked coordinates are close enough to the actual coordinates that they occur in the same nation, the student will have the opportunity to “guess” the name of the nation. If correct, students earn the flag of the nation that appears in the flags panel. Students also have 100 “coordinate points” to work with. If the actual coordinate is 95 degrees west and the student chooses 90 degrees, he or she will lose five coordinate points reducing the total, for example, to 95. The game ends when the student has no coordinate points left.

Crossing Math Canyon

 
Background: For hundreds of years, the famous but elusive Golden Medallion of Math Canyon has proved unreachable and deadly for dozens of brave explorers who have tried crossing the invisible bridge for the purposes of obtaining it. Now, it is your turn. The Bridge that crosses Math Canyon will form plank by plank as you step on the correct planks. Red Hawk, an ancient Pueblo warrior, will guide you along the way. First, step on planks that are multiples of two (use your counting by two skills). Then, all multiples of three, four, five, and so on until you complete multiples of nine. Then, and only then, can you uncover the long lost golden medallion of Math Canyon.
