The Colorado Plateau is a 130,000 square mile region centered over the four corners of the American southwest. A plateau is a relatively high area of flat land. The Colorado Plateau is a semi-arid region that features incredible rock formations and landforms such as cliffs, canyons, mesas, arches, natural bridges, sand dunes, and monoliths. Precipitation that falls in the region is drained to the sea by the Colorado River. The region is home to ten national parks including Arches, Zion, Grand Canyon, and Great Sand Dunes.
