About Chaparral

* Chaparral is a shrubby, coastal biome that has hot summer, and cool, mild, rainy winters.
* Chaparral is characterized by regions of tall, dense shrubs, and shrubby woodlands (scrub oak). It occurs in the Mediterranean region of Europe and northern Africa, extreme southern Africa, southern California, and southwestern Australia.
* 15 to 40 inches of rain per year fall in Chaparral regions.
* Chaparral regions are plagued by wildfires.
* Chaparral regions support a moderate level of biodiversity. Animal and plant life vary by continent, but some examples include mountain lions, coyotes, rabbits, and snakes. Many animals found in Chaparral regions are also found in nearby deserts.
