Indonesian Archipelago

What is a Archipelago?

A group of many islands in a large body of water.

What is an Example of a Archipelago?

Consisting of over 18,000 individual islands, Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago. It is also the world’s fourth most populous nation and the world’s largest Muslim-dominated nation. The main islands in the archipelago are Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and New Guinea. The island of Sumatra was heavily damaged by the Tsunami of 2004. Indonesia was once known as The Spice Islands, and was a major destination for European explorers in the 16th and 17th centuries.
